Liverpool vs Manchester City Preview – By Joe Prince-Wright

Arne Slott’s Liverpool are the reigning Premier League champions, but they come into the weekend 14 points behind leaders Arsenal. Their main goal is to finish in the top four (top five will probably be enough to qualify for next season’s Champions League) beat Newcastle 4-1 There were signs last weekend that they could do just that and go further in the Champions League.

Manchester City reach League Cup final They will face Arsenal in midweek and beat Newcastle 5-1 on aggregate. But this comes after Pep Guardiola’s side inexplicably led Tottenham 2-0 last weekend. Just drew 2-2. They are now seven points behind leaders Arsenal as defensive injuries have mounted in recent weeks.

Liverpool team news, focus

Jeremy Frimpong is definitely out for this game, but Joe Gomez is likely to start at right-back. Dominik Szoboszlai may continue to play out of position in order to keep Alexis Mac Allister in midfield from the start. Connor Bradley, Giovanni Leoni and Alexander Isak were all out. Slott has been encouraged by the performances of summer signings Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitic as they have really established themselves in the Premier League, with Wirtz in particular finally settling into the squad and making a huge impact in recent games.

Manchester City news, highlights

Centre-backs Josco Gvadiol and John Stones are still out injured, while Ruben Dias is likely to return for this game. Jeremy Doku and Savinho are out injured, while Bernardo Silva is doubtful. With Erling Haaland, Rayan Cherki, Rodri and Gianluigi Donnarumma all rested in midweek, this game will look fresh. January signings Marc Gay and Antoine Semenho have both been linked with moves to Liverpool but have been huge for City since signing and the duo could play a role in this game.

Liverpool vs Manchester City Prediction

This could be an interesting game as both teams know how important a win is to their respective goals. Give Manchester City the advantage. Liverpool 2-3 Manchester City.
