Lewandowski addresses unusual Barcelona request over goals and contract payments – ‘Was aware of the situation’

Without saying so directly, Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has opened the door to one of the most nuanced conversations surrounding the financial pressures he faces since joining from Bayern Munich.

In an interview with Polish journalist Bogdan Lemanowski, Lewandowski responded to claims in an unauthorized biography that suggested Barcelona faced financial risks if the striker exceeded a certain goal threshold.

According to the book, a clause in the deal between Barcelona and Bayern means an additional payment is triggered once Lewandowski reaches a certain number of goals, putting further pressure on the club’s already fragile finances.

Therefore, the biography states that the Barcelona management asked the striker to stop scoring goals to avoid paying further fees.

While the Polish striker did not confirm the details, his words gave us an idea that this is an unusual situation for a player of his caliber.

“There are things I don’t want to talk about. I have great respect for FC Barcelona and the people who work there. I know the situation at the club,” The striker was quoted as saying by Mundo Deportivo.

The context behind this statement is important. Lewandowski arrived at Barcelona in the summer of 2022 and became the club’s marquee signing.

His goals promise success on the pitch, but behind the scenes, each milestone also comes with financial consequences.

While Lewandowski admits the situation has been bothering him, he is keen to stress it has never affected his professionalism or commitment to the pitch.

“For me, nothing has changed. I don’t have any problem with it, although it’s ingrained in my mind and I do think about it at some points,” he added.

Regardless, Lewandowski did not create tension, choosing instead to downplay the incident as part of the reality of modern football, where financial structures often coexist with sporting ambitions.
