Leverkusen drew 0-0 with Olympiacos on Tuesday and won 2-0 on aggregate to advance to the last 16 of the Champions League.

Their next opponents will be Bayern Munich or Arsenal, and Die Werkself has a clear preference.

“It would be great if we drew Arsenal,” Leverkusen general manager Simon Rolfes told Bild, adding that he hopes to reunite with former Leverkusen star Kai Havertz, who now plays for the Gunners.

“Then we can finally say goodbye to Kai Havertz in our stadium – almost six years since he left. I have been in touch with Kai recently. He is also happy to be reunited. He prays that we can improve.”

Head coach Kaspar Hulmand is also hoping for a draw against Arsenal, noting that Leverkusen will face Bayern Munich twice next month – once in the Bundesliga and once in the DFB-Pokal.

“These are two of the best teams in Europe; they are at the same level. It’s fantastic. We want to play against the best teams. We are looking forward to this big challenge. Four games against Bayern in a month? For Arsenal there could be some changes,” Houmand said.
