The Lenovo Legion Go 2, a Windows-based gaming handheld launched last week at IFA in Berlin, will feature the new Xbox interface on the Asus ROG Xbox Ally device. The Legion Go 2 will be the first handheld device outside of Asus to feature a custom operating system experience designed to keep Windows operations in the background, Lenovo confirmed on Friday after announcing the device. The full-screen Xbox experience that launched with the ROG Xbox Ally handheld device will appear on Lenovo’s new handheld device next year.
Xbox full screen experience on Legion Go 2
Lenovo told The Verge that the new Xbox interface will be available on the Legion Go 2 when it’s ready in spring 2026. Users will be able to manually switch the device, which will launch with Windows 11 later this month, to the full-screen Xbox experience.
The interface will first be available on Asus ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X handheld devices launching on October 16, and will be available later on Asus ROG Ally and Ally X devices launching in 2023 and 2024 respectively. Microsoft and Asus have previously confirmed that the Xbox full-screen experience will be coming to other Windows handheld devices in 2026.
The Xbox full-screen experience will enable Windows handheld devices to boot directly into the new interface. Microsoft says the experience is optimized specifically for handheld gaming and retains the Windows taskbar and other operations to reduce load.
Lenovo has previously launched a handheld computer powered by Valve’s SteamOS. The company announced a SteamOS version of the Legion Go S at CES earlier this year, as well as a Windows 11 version of the device. However, Legion Go 2 does not get a SteamOS version and instead runs Windows 11.
Legion Go 2 was launched last week at the IFA Berlin tech trade show. The handheld device brings considerable upgrades compared to the first-generation Legion Go, including an AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme chip, a larger 8.8-inch OLED display, more memory, and a larger battery.
Meanwhile, Microsoft and Asus will launch ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X handheld devices with the Xbox full-screen experience in select countries next month, with more markets to follow.
