represent. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) Call Rep. Tony Gonzalez (R-TX) resigned Monday, hours after 24sight News reported inappropriate text messages Gonzalez sent him Regina Santos AvilesIn September last year, a former employee set himself on fire and committed suicide.
The new messages – in which Gonzalez asked Santos-Aviles to send him “a sexy photo” and fantasized about “nailing your leg on it” – were released less than a week after another former Gonzalez employee who described himself as Santos-Avilez’s “best friend” told the outlet. San Antonio Express-News Santos-Aviles admitted to him that she had struggled with depression since her husband discovered the relationship, leading the congressman to “abruptly cut her off.” The staffer also produced text messages in which Santos-Aviles admitted the incident.
Gonzalez has repeatedly denied accusations that he had an affair with Santos-Aviles, blaming last week’s story on his archrival in a statement that read:
Ms. Santos-Aviles had a kind heart and dedicated her life to making her community a better place. Her efforts resulted in unprecedented improvements in school safety, health care, and rural water supplies. shameful Brandon Herrera [Gonzales’s primary opponent] A disgruntled former staffer is being used to smear her memory and score political points, easily delaying early voting the day it opens. I will not engage in these personal smears and will continue to focus on helping President Trump secure the border and improve the lives of all Texans.
However, at least one of his colleagues is not convinced of his innocence. Boebert called on Gonzalez to resign after the incriminating text messages were released.

If Gonzalez resigns, the seats will be further reduced to 217-214, with four vacancies. That tiny margin of error is especially noteworthy given the narrow margin of error among some Republicans, including members of the House of Representatives. don bacon (R-NE) and Thomas Massey (R-Kentucky) has proven willing to defect and vote with Democrats on countless issues.
