While everyone is focused on AJ Brown and his future in Philadelphia, the Eagles seem increasingly desperate to figure out whether tight end Dallas Goedert can still be a part of their plans for 2026 and beyond. While rumors at the NFL Combine say Goedert is “definitely” leaving in free agency, the latest reports indicate that Howie Roseman is actively trying to bring the veteran tight end back.
NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo reported that the team is trying to re-sign Goedert and that the two sides will have more discussions about the future in the coming days. One interesting thing Garafolo mentioned is how other uncertain roster moves could impact the team’s salary cap decisions.
“With less than a week until the negotiation window begins, #Eagles TE Dallas Goedert is expected to hit free agency for the first time in his career. Sources say the team has expressed interest in re-signing him and the two sides will continue talks in the coming days.
However, Howie Roseman has some issues (like AJ Brown) that are impacting his budget in pending free agency. In the coming days, some of the moving parts may change in several ways. “
At this point, the Eagles appear to want Goedert back, but knowing he wants to be paid like one of the league’s top tight ends — whether they can do that appears to be the sticking point. Another report on Tuesday said the Eagles are also considering Browns tight end David Njoku, who is set to become a free agent this offseason, so the team is at least exploring all options, even if re-signing Goedert is Plan A.
