Langham Creek LB Jhadyn Nelson commits to Texas Tech football team

A key reason for the Texas Tech football team’s success in 2025 is the linebacker corps, led unanimously by All-Americans Jacob Rodriguez, Ben Roberts and John Curry. With Roberts, Curry and top transfer portal additions Austin Roman, the team should be a powerhouse again in 2026.

Houston Langham Creek linebacker Jhadyn Nelson told Rivals Recruiting Services on Wednesday, March 18, that he is committed to the Red Raiders. Nelson, who is 6-foot-3, 217 pounds, is ranked No. 29 in the state of Texas in the 2027 recruiting class and No. 190 nationally in the 247Sports Composite, according to Langham Creek staff reports. The index reflects the consensus of 247Sports and other recruiting services.

Nelson was offered scholarships by more than a dozen Final Four conference schools, including Texas, Texas A&M, Miami (Fla.) and Ohio State. He also attracted scholarship offers from Big 12 members Arizona State, Baylor State, Houston State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State and TCU.

Other states pursuing him include Auburn, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina and UCLA.

Nelson has plans to visit SMU, Houston, Kansas State, Texas State, Tech and Ohio State, according to recruiting services.

Last season, Nelson played for a team with a record of 6 wins and 4 losses, completing 59 tackles, including 10 tackles and 3 sacks. He also had four fumbles and an interception.

As a sophomore, he played in eight games on a team that went 4-6, recording 42 tackles, two sacks, one interception and one fumble recovery.
