Lamar Jackson vs Aaron Rodgers matchup had statistical significance

Elite NFL quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson met for the first time on Sunday. Rodgers’ Pittsburgh Steelers defeated Jackson’s Baltimore Ravens 27-22, taking sole possession of first place in the AFC North in the process.

Rodgers vs. Jackson is a statistically significant matchup. It’s a battle between the highest-graded career passer of all time (Rogers, 102.4) and his closest challenger (Jackson, 102.2).

It’s also worth noting that the current fourth-ranked career passer in the AFC North is Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals with a rating of 100.7.

While the gap between Rodgers and Jackson has always been slim, there was a sizable gap today. Rodgers was 23-of-34 passing for 284 yards, 8.4 yards per carry, one touchdown pass, and no interceptions.

His passer rating on Sunday in Baltimore was 103.1.

Jackson, meanwhile, caught 19 passes for 219 yards on 35 attempts with a 6.3 YPA, 1 TD and 1 INT. Lamar’s passer rating was just 71.0, but at least he ended a serious statistical absurdity.

With his touchdown pass this weekend, he ended a streak of three consecutive games without a touchdown.
