Lahm criticizes lack of consistency at Germany national team

Former Germany captain Philipp Lahm has criticized the national team’s lack of consistency under coach Julian Nagelsmann.

“For me, there’s been so many changes, some due to injuries, but more than that. Now you don’t know: Who is (part of) the core, who fits together?” he told Sports Illustrated in an interview published Wednesday.

“Julian Nagelsmann needs to get this under control as soon as possible. It’s been too much for me lately,” the 2014 World Cup winner added.

He said the numerous changes have not given established players the necessary sense of security.

“You can tire players out. I think it’s necessary now to stop rotating so frequently,” he said.

However, Lahm believes Germany has a chance to win the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

“But you need continuity and automated responses to develop excellence,” he stresses.

He said that German fans need not worry about the strength of the team.

“Every generation has had top footballers and we have them now,” he said.

However, Lahm added that in order to win the title it is crucial for the team to develop intensity, passion and mutual trust.
