Kraft Group, cities of Everett and Boston, agree to proposed soccer stadium

Kraft Group and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu announced an agreement for a “community benefit package” for the proposed New England Revolution football stadium, worth nearly $48 million over the next 15 years.

The agreement would primarily fund infrastructure improvements and projects in neighboring Charlestown, as the proposed stadium would be located above the Everett Line.

Kraft’s financial commitment is aimed at improving local infrastructure, which has been a focus of discussion among community leaders.

Mayor Wu emphasized that the stadium “will enhance Boston’s status as the sports and entertainment capital of New England while transforming the blighted venues on our doorstep.”

Charlestown is expected to receive the majority of mitigation funding, which is critical to the area’s continued development needs. Kraft will make an initial payment of $3 million over six years to the Charleston Community Impact Fund. In addition, at least half of future ticket sales, expected to be approximately $2 million per year, will be used for specific municipal projects in the city.

“Charlestown has made it clear that a project of this scale must provide tangible climate change mitigation,” said City Councilmember Gabriela Coletta Zapata. “After months of negotiations, the city secured a payment of nearly $50 million over 15 years, up from the $750,000 originally proposed, while also providing funding for public safety, traffic management, and major infrastructure improvements to Sullivan Square and the surrounding corridor.”

“The language of the law we passed to advance this project makes clear that the communities most impacted by this project should have a say in how this development moves forward, and I want to thank Mayor Wu for all of his work to ensure that Charlestown’s needs are met in this agreement,” said State Senator Sal DiDomenico. “I am pleased to see Revolution Football Stadium take this critical step to make this transformational project a reality.”

The New England Revolution currently play their games at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, which they share with the New England Patriots. The purpose of the relocation is to expand the Revolution’s fan base.

Kraft and city officials are expected to finalize specific projects and funding allocations in the coming months, with a focus on infrastructure improvements starting in 2026.
