Key takeaways from Alabama’s heartbreaking loss against Georgia

The Alabama Crimson Tide lost to the Georgia Bulldogs 28-7 in the SEC Championship Game.

The Tide has struggled offensively with the football. Alabama was -3 overall rushing yards during the game as the Tide was unable to get anywhere offensively. Daniel Hill led the team in rushing yards with 11 total, but Alabama ended up being dominated by the Bulldogs on both sides of the ball in Atlanta.

Alabama’s defense played well in the first half. The Bulldogs blocked a punt in the first half of the game, which gave Georgia great field position, and the Bulldogs capitalized on the opportunity, taking an early 7-0 lead over the Tide. Georgia State also took advantage of the momentum in the game, with the Bulldogs outscoring the Tide 14-0 entering the second half.

Here are three key takeaways from the Crimson Tide’s game against the Bulldogs in Atlanta.

Injuries on both sides of the ball have hurt the Tide tremendously

Coming into the SEC Championship Game, Alabama was missing some key playmakers on both offense and defense. Star defensive lineman LT Overton was ruled out due to illness, while Jam Miller and Josh Cuevas were also ruled out before the game. Ultimately, injuries on offense and defense played a huge role against Elite Georgia, as the Tide now turns their attention to a College Football Playoff berth.

Simpson struggled a lot throughout the game. The junior threw a momentum-changing interception in the first half that was ultimately unable to recover despite Simpson throwing a touchdown to Jamie Bernard late in the game. Simpson struggled against the Georgia defense, and the Tide ultimately allowed just seven points against the Dawgs.

Keon Keeley and James Smith combine for sack against Georgia

Alabama struggled on both sides of the ball for much of the game. Keeley and Smith combined for the Tide’s lone sack of the afternoon as each player continues to step up on the defensive side of the football in the second half of the season. Atlanta’s defense struggled overall, but both players could have a serious impact if Alabama qualifies for the College Football Playoff.
