Kaycie Burdick has been an on-base machine for Washington softball

Kaycie Burdick didn’t find her name on Softball America’s Big Ten preseason freshman watch list, but she’s made a huge impact on coach Heather Tarr and the Washington Huskies since she arrived on campus.

After earning numerous honors at Foothill High School in Pleasanton, California, including Bay Area Softball Hitter of the Year and being named to the first team All-Northern California, she continued to find success on the field early in her college career.

She appeared in 23 of the Wizards’ 25 games and started 19 while posting one of the best numbers on the team. Her .400 batting average and .534 on-base percentage both ranked third on the team, while she also ranked fourth on the Huskies with 18 hits and 10 at-bats, while her 1.045 OPS and 13 runs scored ranked fifth on the team.

Burdick has also shown impressive consistency throughout the season, hitting the plate in 15 of 23 games, including each of Washington’s last six games as Tarr’s team has won nine straight heading into a weekend series with the Maryland Terrapins.

While primarily hitting at the bottom of the order, her ability to get on base quickly has helped shift the order to Tal’s top base runners Jadyn Grubb and Alexis DeBoer, and the Huskies are fourth in the Big Ten with 183 runs this season.

The Huskies are looking to make a deep playoff run after being eliminated in the Lubbock Regional last year, and Burdick will likely be a key figure and cornerstone of Washington’s lineup for the foreseeable future.
