Kane is going for Lewandowski’s record 41-goal haul in a Bundesliga season

DORTMUND, Germany (AP) — Harry Kane added two more goals as Bayern Munich beat Borussia Dortmund 3-2 on Saturday, targeting Robert Lewandowski’s Bundesliga record of 41 goals in a season.

It was his fourth consecutive game with two goals or more, taking his league tally to 30 games so far, up from 24.

“Of course,” the England star replied when asked if he would match Lewandowski’s record in 2020-21. “I have to keep doing what I’m doing.”

On Saturday, Kane converted another penalty kick, his 10th successful penalty kick in the league. In all competitions this season, the 32-year-old Kane has played 37 times for Bayern and scored 45 goals.

“There’s still a lot of games left to play,” Kane said of the record challenge with 10 rounds remaining. “I need to try to be consistent during this time. If that’s possible, we’ll start in late April, early May and see if that’s possible. But of course, right now it’s there and I just have to do what I have to do.”

Kane recently celebrated his 500th goal for club and country.

Lewandowski, who also plays for Bayern, scored in the last minute of the last game in May 2021, breaking the record held by Gerd Muller in the 1971-72 season.

Kane said he does not think the Bundesliga title race is over, with Bayern 11 points ahead of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the table.

“We were 11 points ahead a few weeks ago and we saw how quickly it can change between results,” he said. “So we have to stay focused.”
