Chargers safety Tony Jefferson was ejected from Sunday’s game for hitting Chiefs wide receiver Ta’Quan Thornton, which Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh dismissed as just a good football play.
Harbaugh said Jefferson is a good physical player, which is a good thing, and in that game he was just trying to break up passes.

“I like the way he plays, I like his attitude,” Harbaugh said of Jefferson. “That particular game, I didn’t know what else he could do.”
Jefferson had Apologizes for giving middle finger to Chiefs fans As he walked off the field, Harbaugh acknowledged that Jefferson had crossed a line. But he said the hit was a good piece of football in its own right.
“I know the way he acted after that didn’t feel like it – he’s apologized for it. That wasn’t the right thing to do,” Harbaugh said. “But that particular hit, I don’t know what else he could have done.”
Harbaugh said he hasn’t heard what kind of discipline the league office took against Jefferson, whether it was a hit or a hand gesture.
