Jim Harbaugh on Tony Jefferson ejection: I don’t know what else he could have done

Chargers safety Tony Jefferson was ejected from Sunday’s game for hitting Chiefs wide receiver Ta’Quan Thornton, which Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh dismissed as just a good football play.

Harbaugh said Jefferson is a good physical player, which is a good thing, and in that game he was just trying to break up passes.

“I like the way he plays, I like his attitude,” Harbaugh said of Jefferson. “That particular game, I didn’t know what else he could do.”

Jefferson had Apologizes for giving middle finger to Chiefs fans As he walked off the field, Harbaugh acknowledged that Jefferson had crossed a line. But he said the hit was a good piece of football in its own right.

“I know the way he acted after that didn’t feel like it – he’s apologized for it. That wasn’t the right thing to do,” Harbaugh said. “But that particular hit, I don’t know what else he could have done.”

Harbaugh said he hasn’t heard what kind of discipline the league office took against Jefferson, whether it was a hit or a hand gesture.
