The New York Jets have reached an agreement with safety Dane Belton to poach him from the in-state rival New York Giants, NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reports.
Belton, a 2022 fourth-round pick out of Iowa, spent his first four NFL seasons with the Giants, where he developed into a reliable backup safety and special teams contributor. During his tenure, he appeared in 66 games (22 starts), provided depth to the secondary and made multiple key plays.

His versatility and performance on special teams make him a valuable depth piece for the Giants.
The Jets will sign Belton to a one-year, $4 million contract that could be worth as much as $6 million.
The Giants reportedly addressed Belton’s departure by agreeing to terms with defensive back Adalius Washington. Washington, a former Baltimore Raven with five years of experience, is familiar with the scheme and has added depth to the Giants’ secondary following the loss.
Belton’s move to the Jets adds intrigue to the in-state rivalry as both teams try to bolster their defenses ahead of the new league year.
