Jeffrey died by “hanging himself” in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in August 2019
Mark Epstein continues to claim there is evidence that his brother Jeffrey Epstein was murdered.
Jeffrey, a convicted sex trafficker, hanged himself in his cell at New York’s Metropolitan Correctional Center on August 10, 2019, while awaiting trial on multiple sex trafficking charges. Mark was the one who identified the body.
As speculation began about the circumstances of Jeffrey’s death, Mark hired former New York City chief medical examiner Dr. Michael Baden, who said “the evidence points to homicide rather than suicide.”
Years later, in June 2023, the FBI and Justice Department said there was no credible evidence that his death was caused by foul play, according to a Justice Department report.
Despite these findings, Mark continued to express doubts about the official findings, telling NBC News in July 2025, “I am increasingly convinced that he was murdered.” “Everyone who looks at all the factual information comes to the same conclusion,” Mark added.
On Friday, January 9, Mark reiterated his belief on News Nation Now, again claiming that Jeffrey was murdered and that “more autopsy facts will be released in February to prove that.”
He told the outlet that when he saw Jeffrey’s body, the injuries were “inconsistent with the way his body was found hanging.”

Mark continued, “There are only three ways to die in prison,” before adding, “Suicide, natural causes or murder.”
“Jeff was murdered. I want to know who killed him and on whose behalf?”
Mark also said he believed the previous investigation and subsequent findings were a “cover-up.” “Why this charade?” he asked. “Who are they trying to protect?”
Meanwhile, Mark rejected comments in August 2025 from Jeffrey’s long-time confidant Ghislaine Maxwell that she did not “see” Jeffrey’s murder happen, although she admitted it was “certainly” possible.
“But I don’t know why, I don’t believe in blackmail or any of that, I don’t think Epstein had such a hit,” she continued. “If it was indeed murder, I believe it was an inside job.”
In an interview with News Nation Now on Friday, Mark said he “wouldn’t believe anything,” Maxwell said, adding that she “never saw Jeff’s body or talked to him before he died.”

Prior to Mark’s Jan. 9 interview with NewsNation, he claimed in a phone interview with the outlet on Nov. 18 that an unnamed source told him that the names of conservative politicians would be removed from Epstein’s files to prevent Republicans from being implicated.
A few days later, on November 20, he claimed on CNN Erin BurnettOutFront President Donald Trump deliberately delayed the release of Epstein documents.
Mark also claimed that his brother had information about Trump when he was running for his first term in 2016, claiming that the information was enough to “cancel the election.”
“He didn’t tell me what he knew,” Mark told the outlet, “but Jeffrey definitely had dirt on Trump.”
