When he attended the summit with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who was representing the United States, he tried to tell a joke, but it simply didn’t work.
After Trump praised J.D. in his opening remarks, the vice president took to the podium and said, “Mr. President, thank you so much for your leadership, and thank you for the kind words you have personally expressed.”
“I know exactly what I want to say, but after the president said I’m smart and I don’t want to repeat our congresswoman, she was in Munich for 20 seconds, and now, sir, I would love to stay for 20 seconds and just stare into the camera and maybe, they’ll say something nice about me like they said about Congresswoman Cortez,” he continued.

If you missed the joke, you weren’t alone, as no one in the audience laughed at JD’s remarks about U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
He was apparently referring to a few days ago when Ocasio-Cortez was in Munich, where she reportedly “frozen” when asked about Taiwan and China and how her performance elicited different reactions. The question raised is: “If China takes action, will and should the United States send troops to defend Taiwan?”
Her response: “Well, well… this is a long-term policy of the United States. I think what we hope for is we want to make sure that we never get to that point.”

After a clip of JD’s miscalculated joke went viral on Twitter (X), the overall awkwardness prompted a lot of reactions.

One person said: “Never knew I could be so unattractive and embarrassing.”
Another said, “He really needs to stop telling jokes, I don’t think any of the jokes he ever told were funny or made people laugh. The second hand embarrassment is crazy.”
