James Charles has apologized for calling a fired Spirit Airlines employee a “slacker” in a now-viral TikTok. In a May 8 post, the content creator read aloud in a mocking tone a private message he received from a former Spirit employee who shared the GoFundMe link with him, noting that “any donation helps.” “I’m sure they’re going to do it, honey, I’m sure they’re going to do it. You know what else could help you? Get another job. Yeah, try it!” he said. Charles went on to claim that in the time it took the woman to send him a private message, she “could have applied for 100 other jobs.” “But you didn’t. Because you’re a lazy guy and you have a right,” he asserted. The makeup artist continued his two-minute rant, sharing in part that “people are losing their jobs every day.” “I’m not going to do anything. You know what you need to do? Find a new f**king girl. Put some effort into the workplace. Ugh!” he said as he concluded the video. The content creator faced backlash for his comments, leading him to quickly delete the video and apologize. In his three-minute TikTok follow-up, Charles called his original video “stupid as hell.” “It’s rude. It’s obnoxious. It’s a privilege and most importantly, it’s completely unnecessary,” he said in part, adding, “I’m ashamed of her for asking for help when she was clearly really struggling and it was probably her absolute last resort.”
