Similar to Young, I’ve heard Morant is quietly open to leaving Memphis for a change of scenery, much like his counterpart left Atlanta. The Grizzlies’ decision to lobby for a trade for Morant was seen as a mutually agreeable path forward. My sense at this juncture is that Memphis wants its rebuild to revolve around Jaren Jackson Jr. after the Grizzlies made moves to clear payroll this past offseason to be able to renegotiate and extend Triple J’s contract. Some around the league actually viewed this sequence of events as an unofficial shift toward a team centered around Jackson rather than Morant. Admittedly, the sample size is small, but Memphis posted an encouraging 7-2 record in November without Morant on the floor.
