New attacks by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip have killed at least nine Palestinians, medical sources said, in another violation of October’s U.S.-brokered “ceasefire.”
Sunday’s attack came as the Israeli military launched multiple attacks in southern Lebanon, targeting alleged warehouses used by the Hezbollah militant group.
In Gaza, sources at Nasser Hospital told Al Jazeera that Israeli forces killed at least five Palestinians in the southern city of Khan Younis.
The source added that the attack took place outside the so-called “yellow line” where Israeli troops are stationed in Gaza.
Four more Palestinians were killed when Israeli forces attacked the tents of displaced people in the Fallujah district of northern Gaza, sources at Shifa hospital said.
There was no immediate comment from Israel.
However, the Israeli military said in a statement earlier on Sunday that it attacked a building in an unspecified area of northern Gaza shortly after several armed fighters entered the building.
At least two militants were allegedly killed.
The Israeli military also said it killed another person in Gaza on Sunday who it said had crossed the Yellow Line and posed a “direct threat” to troops stationed there.
It provided no evidence for its claims.
In Lebanon, the Israeli military said it raided warehouses used by Hezbollah to store weapons and launchers in the country’s southern region.
The Israeli military and Hezbollah began attacking northern Israel in 2023 in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza, and agreed to a ceasefire in November 2024.
Lebanon had no immediate comment on Sunday’s attack.
According to Gaza and Lebanese authorities, attacks have been carried out almost daily despite Israeli forces agreeing to cease fighting.
In Gaza, Israel has violated the US-brokered “ceasefire” more than 1,500 times since it came into effect on October 10. Since then, at least 591 people have been killed and 1,590 injured.
In addition to killing Palestinians on an almost daily basis, Israel severely restricts the entry of food, medicine, medical supplies, housing materials and mobile homes into Gaza, where some 2 million Palestinians – including 1.5 million displaced – live in catastrophic conditions.
On October 8, 2023, Israel launched a genocidal war against Gaza with the support of the United States, killing 72,032 people, injuring approximately 171,661 people, and destroying 90% of the territory’s infrastructure.
The United Nations estimates that rebuilding Gaza could cost more than $70 billion.
According to the United Nations, the Israeli military has launched more than 10,000 air and ground attacks in Lebanon in the year since it agreed to cease hostilities.
The group’s rights office said in November that it had verified at least 108 civilian casualties in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire, including at least 21 women and 16 children.
At least 11 Lebanese civilians were also abducted by Israeli forces during this period, the office said.
