Iowa football center Logan Jones wins 2025 Rimington Trophy

Iowa State football’s Logan Jones was named one of three finalists for the 2025 Rimington Trophy earlier this week, and it was announced during the ESPN College Football Awards on Friday, Dec. 12 that he has been named the recipient of the prestigious award given annually to the nation’s most outstanding center.

The winner of the Remington Cup is selected by the center who received the most first-team votes among the three All-America teams (Walter Camp Foundation, The Sporting News and Football Writers Association of America).

The 6-foot-3, 302-pounder from Council Bluffs, Iowa, anchors the Hawkeyes’ offensive line and is a finalist for the Joe Moore Award. The All-Big Ten selection and Outland Trophy finalist has started 50 games in his career and served as team captain in all 12 games this season.

Jones’ protection, along with the rest of the defensive line, helped quarterback Mark Gronowski have a record-breaking season, setting single-season records for rushing yards (491) and rushing touchdowns (15) by a quarterback.

In his run protection job, Jones has helped the Hawkeyes rush opponents nine times, gain over 200 yards in five games and give up just 16 sacks in 2025.

“It’s an honor to be recognized as this year’s Remington Trophy winner. It’s an honor to join the ranks of great recipients that have come before me. I want to thank my head coach, Coach Ferentz; my position coach, Coach Barnett; and most importantly, my teammates, especially my fellow offensive linemen. Without them, I wouldn’t be here,” said Logan Jones of winning the Remington Trophy.

Iowa is now one of four schools with multiple Remington Trophy winners, joining Ohio State, Michigan and Alabama. Jones is the first Hawkeye to win the award since Tyler Linderbaum won the award in 2021, and Tyler Linderbaum offered his sincere congratulations to Jones on Friday night.

“Logan has been a tremendous asset to our football team as the anchor of our offensive line,” said head coach Kirk Ferentz. “He has worked tirelessly to become one of the best players in the country. He is a leader on and off the field. His tenacity sets the tone for the entire team and I am excited for him to receive the Remington Trophy.”

Jones will be honored and formally presented the award at the Remington Trophy Banquet on January 24, 2026 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

“It’s an honor to play at the University of Iowa and representing this team means everything to me. This year has been amazing and I’m grateful for another opportunity to play with my brothers in Tampa. Come on Eagles!” Jones added.

No. 23 Iowa (8-4, 6-3 Big Ten) will face No. 14 Vanderbilt (10-2, 6-2 SEC) in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Dec. 31 in Tampa, Fla. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. central time at Raymond James Stadium, and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN.
