What a journey to Iowa City it has been for Logan Longs.
Jones was a four-star defensive lineman in Iowa’s 2020 recruiting class. The Council Bluffs, Iowa, native was a bright spot in the defensive trenches for the Hawkeyes, but he wouldn’t stay on that side of the ball for long. After Tyler Linderbaum graduated, Jones transitioned from defensive tackle to center, where he has been since. The 6-foot-3, 302-pound lineman started 51 games as a Hawkeye from 2022 to 2025 and won multiple awards.

After earning third-team All-Big Ten honors in 2023, Jones has been a first-team All-Big Ten selection each of the past two seasons, firmly establishing himself as the Big Ten’s best center. Now, Jones has a chance to be named the best center in the country.
Jones was named one of three finalists for the Remington Cup on Monday.
The Remington Trophy is awarded to the best center in Division I college football. Jones is one of three finalists along with Oregon State’s Iapani Laloulu and Florida State’s Jake Slaughter. If he wins the Remington Trophy this year, he will become just the second person in Eagles history to win the trophy, joining Lindbaum in 2022.

Jones is the anchor of an Iowa offensive line that is having a great year in 2025. The team is one of 10 semifinalists for the Joe Moore Award, given to the nation’s best offensive line. Iowa is averaging 177.8 rushing yards per game, which ranks fourth in the Big Ten behind Jones and the rest of the team. The team has allowed just 19 sacks in 12 games this season, the 19th-fewest sack count in the country.
The Remington Trophy winner will be announced Friday, December 12, during the ESPN College Football Awards.
