Unfortunately, Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer’s calf injury during the 3-0 win over Werder Bremen was more serious than initially expected and it looks like Bayern Munich will be sidelined for a considerable period of time. The club confirmed that the goalkeeper suffered a muscle fiber tear in his left calf after a thorough examination by the club’s medical staff, but in the second half and after the final whistle it was thought that Jonas Urbiger’s entry into the game to start the second half was more of a precautionary measure by Vincent Kompany.
Now, according to Germany’s Sky TV, Neuer is expected to miss the game. At least Three weeks (via @iMiaSanMia). During his three-week absence, Neuer will miss games against Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund and possibly even Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen. Jonas Urbiger will stand firm in Neuer’s absence, which is reassuring considering how well he performed when called upon by Kompany.

Urbig has made a total of eight appearances in all competitions so far this season. In these eight games, seven were won and only one was defeated; the 1-2 home loss to Augsburg was shocking. Additionally, Urbiger has kept four clean sheets in seven other games, including 45 minutes against Werder Bremen last weekend. Bayern’s goalkeeping situation in Neuer’s absence has been well controlled, pun intended, to say the least.
