Indianapolis Colts elevate quarterback to Week 18 game day roster

The Indianapolis Colts made two upgrades to their practice squad for their Week 18 game against the Houston Texans, including adding a quarterback to the game-day roster.

The Colts announced Saturday that they would promote quarterback Seth Hanigan and tight end Sean McKeon from their practice squad.

Head coach Sean Steichen had already announced on Friday that Hanigan would be backing up Riley Leonard.

Philip Rivers will serve as the third quarterback, although it remains to be seen whether he will be active.

Hanigan was signed to the practice squad earlier this week and was tasked with learning the Colts offense on the fly.

Hennigan went undrafted out of Memphis last April. He originally signed with Jacksonville and was on the Jaguars’ practice squad for part of the 2025 season.

In Memphis, Hennigan completed 64 percent of his passes for 7.9 yards per carry, 104 touchdowns and 31 interceptions in 50 career games.

McKeon will provide needed depth at tight end, a position where the Colts are short-handed. Drew Ogletree is on injured reserve, while Will Mallory will miss this week’s game due to injury.

From 2020 to 2023, MeKeon appeared in 45 games with the Dallas Cowboys, including 3 starts. He caught six passes for 38 yards and a touchdown.

During the same time span, McKeon also played in 570 special teams games.
