Smriti Mandana said the Indian women’s cricket team wants to maintain its leading position and become a dominant force in world cricket.

After winning their maiden 50-over World Cup, the Women in Blue are now aiming to lift the T20 World Cup later this year.

They started the year strong, beating Australia in the T20 series, their first series victory over a formidable opponent in a decade.

“We have said that this Indian team is trying to be consistent. Don’t think about the opponent or what happened in the past. So we have beaten this, we have beaten that. I feel it is not very important now,” Mandana told BCCI.tv.

“I think we are on the verge of a transformation and we want to dominate world cricket. Whoever we beat, wherever we beat, it doesn’t matter. We just want to keep beating them and stay ahead,” she added.

In the third and final T20 match that decided the series, Mandhana scored a crucial 82 runs. She and Jemima, who shot 59, shared a 121-run partnership to help India reach 176 for six.

The Indian bowlers then performed brilliantly, pinning Australia to 159 for 9 to seal the win.

“I mean, I really loved Adelaide as a city, even before I came here to play. Yeah, it’s very quiet and nice. I mean, some Australians get very happy when I say it’s the best city in Australia, and in fact, I find it to be the best city in Australia.”

The Women’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in England and Wales from June 12 to July 5.

“This is a T20 year. Last year it was one-dayers and we played a lot of one-day cricket.

“So, coming into this year, of course, I feel we are a solid ODI team, but we are still looking at the T20 games and our best XI and best 15 on the T20 side. Of course, the WPL has played a huge role in getting us better on the T20 side,” she added.
