An Indianapolis Police Department officer was arrested following an off-duty altercation at a local gym.
Taylor Jones, 32, was arrested March 13 and initially charged with battery causing moderate bodily injury after the department said he was involved in an after-hours fight at a Critical Time Fitness Center.
Police reported that a fight broke out at 10:35 a.m. on Feb. 21 at the gym franchise’s 6160 N. Keystone Blvd. location. Jones was initially listed as the victim, while another man was named as a suspect.
But the IMPD Special Investigations Unit was called and responded to the scene, the department said. Injuries were recorded for Jones and the other man. After speaking with everyone involved and witnesses, Jones was placed on administrative duty.
Jones surrendered on the evening of March 13.
He has been with IMPD for seven years and was recently awarded the Medal of Valor, a point highlighted on IMPD’s North Precinct Facebook page on Feb. 24, three days after police reported the fight.
Tyler Jones’ original name was listed as an award winner as early as February 2026 before IMPD North Precinct’s Facebook page changed the post following his arrest.
Former Internal Affairs Police officer arrested, acquitted and sentenced
Jones is one of several Internal Affairs Police officers arrested in recent years.
Last month, former IMPD officer Kamal Bola, 36, was sentenced to 72 years in prison by the Indiana Department of Corrections on multiple charges including child molestation. A Hendricks County jury found him guilty on Feb. 24. Borah was arrested in 2024 after a preliminary investigation into allegations that he installed a hidden camera in an underage girl’s bedroom.
In January, former IMPD internal affairs officer Javed Richards sought a plea deal in a federal child pornography case. On Jan. 5, he filed an agreement pleading guilty to one count of distributing visual depictions of sexually explicit conduct involving a minor. IMPD announced in 2024 that Richards was suspended and was making a recommendation for termination to the Police Merit Board. The department confirmed via email that the recommendation was still pending.
Former IMPD officer Myron Howard was twice acquitted in two separate cases involving inappropriate behavior with women while he was on the run with police. On January 14, 2026, he was found not guilty of having sex with a woman in the back seat of a police car after a 2023 car crash. He was also found not guilty at a trial on August 28, 2025, after being accused of returning to the home of a domestic violence victim who called police for harassment in 2024 and having sex with her.
In July 2025, retired IMPD officer David B. McDaniel was arrested in Hancock County on charges of molesting another officer’s child.
