An illegal immigrant woman convicted of trying to kill her newborn baby in Long Island, New York, has been successfully deported from the United States, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
Soili Xiomara Aparicio-Santos is an illegal immigrant from Honduras who was deported from New York by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in April this year. The agency said she was deported after serving eight years in a New York prison for attempted murder of a baby.
Aparicio-Santos entered the country illegally in 2014 during the Obama administration. She has had a final deportation order since 2014.

In 2018, she was convicted of attempted second-degree murder, attempted first- and second-degree assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.
The Department of Homeland Security said that although Aparicio-Santos was initially sentenced to 16 years in prison for the crime, it was later reduced to 10 years, of which she ultimately served only eight years. However, the Department of Homeland Security said local authorities cooperated with ICE and notified the agency before releasing her so federal agents could arrest her.

According to local media “Daily Voice”, the 41-year-old man lives in Centereach, Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.
The outlet reported that in 2017, Aparicio-Santos tried to suffocate her baby boy with a pillow. A family member noticed her behavior and called police. The child was reportedly not seriously injured and was placed in a foster care facility.
ICE first filed a detainer request for Aparicio-Santos in 2017 after he was initially arrested by Suffolk County police on a charge of first-degree reckless endangerment. The agency then detained her for a second time in 2018 while she was serving her sentence, DHS said.
Acting Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Lauren Bis praised local authorities on Long Island for working with ICE to deport Aparicio-Santos.
“Thanks to the cooperation of law enforcement and our ICE officers, this brutal criminal has left our country,” Biss said in a Department of Homeland Security news release.

“This monster tried to kill her own child on the day he was born,” Biss said.
She blasted the Obama administration for “releasing this attempted murderer into our country.”
Biss stressed that the Department of Homeland Security “needs the cooperation of state and local politicians to drive criminals like this out of our country,” adding, “Together, we can make America safe again.”
New York’s Suffolk and Nassau counties, both controlled by Republicans, stand in stark contrast to neighboring New York City in how they cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.
Suffolk County is currently fighting a $112 million federal jury verdict after a court found the county violated constitutional rights by holding inmates past their release dates simply to satisfy ICE’s detention requirements.
Suffolk County attorney Thomas Dewey slammed the ruling, saying “the jury’s absurd and unjust damages award cannot stand,” the New York Post reported.

The Department of Homeland Security said in a statement that seven of the ten safest cities in the United States cooperate with ICE.
The agency said cooperation with federal immigration enforcement and local law enforcement is “critical for DHS to have the resources it needs to apprehend criminal illegal aliens across the country.”

“When politicians prohibit local law enforcement from cooperating with the Department of Homeland Security, law enforcement must become more visible in identifying and apprehending criminals who are released from prison and returned to the community,” the agency said.
