GLEN BURNY, Md. (AP) — Federal immigration agents opened fire on a moving vehicle during an enforcement and deportation operation Wednesday morning, wounding one person and injuring another, local officials said.
A spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Police Department said both men suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital.
Around 10:50 a.m., Anne Arundel police responded to a shooting involving federal agents. Police said Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers were the only officers involved in the shooting.
Police initially said the agents approached a white van, but the vehicle tried to run them over. Police said agents fired at the van, which accelerated until it stopped in the woods.
Officials did not release the identity of the person injured in the shooting.
Anne Arundel police said they will investigate the shooting, with the FBI investigating agents suspected of the assault and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducting an internal investigation.
