Liam Rogniol, who started life as Chelsea manager with a soft start against Charlton in the FA Cup, struggled against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup in just his second game.

The head coach gave his pre-match press conference last night and answered some questions about how he saw the game progressing. A reporter asked him if this was the most important game of his coaching career so far.

“People will look at it that way. But I don’t look at it that way. I think every training I go to, every meeting I go to, every game we play is the most important thing. I live in the moment,” the head coach explained.

“It’s the most important game because it’s the next one. I mean. If you start prioritizing games or thinking one thing is more important than another, then you’re not going to be focused. I don’t care if it’s a preseason game. I’m going to do my best. I hope that’s the case no matter which team I work with.

“It keeps me calm because I’m happy with the process that we have as a staff and the job that the players have taken on. I’m not going to take that more seriously than the fact that we have to win the next game. That’s how I look at it.”

He will try to get that message across to his players – focus on this game and don’t worry about the next one. But sometimes this is easier said than done.

In other news…

Ronnie Orr has made it clear that his focus over the past few days has been more on attitude than tactics, but one player who knows him has spoken of what he tells his attackers to do.

Chelsea’s wingers were given new roles last night and were unable to improve their passing in the box. There were 0 crosses completed between them.
