The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has identified the two people killed in a head-on collision in Foothills on Friday as a couple.
Ted Amber, 87, and Sharon Amber, 86, both of Clovis, were traveling northbound on Auberry Road when a Kia Soul crossed the center line and struck them in the southbound lane of Waterbury Road.
The incident was reported at 11:30 a.m.
The two people were pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.
The driver, 21, of Durango, was not injured and is cooperating with authorities.
The CHP said alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash, but the driver was arrested based on witness statements and physical evidence.
The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office responded to the scene.
The Durango driver was identified as Lazaro Hernandez of Clovis. He was booked into the Fresno County Jail and charged with two felony counts of gross vehicular manslaughter.
“While marijuana and marijuana odor were detected in the vehicle, the CHP conducted an expert drug recognition evaluation and ruled out the possibility of impairment,” authorities said.
