Paytm offers different payment methods to its users and the fintech company recently added support for Tap to Pay feature for card payments using Android smartphones. The feature works similarly to Samsung Pay and Google Pay, allowing users to make purchases at point-of-sale (PoS) machines via NFC. No need to carry a debit or credit card to pay. The feature also works without an internet connection, which comes in handy when the smartphone doesn’t have enough internet connection. iPhone users won’t be able to use the feature as NFC payments are limited to Apple Pay, which is yet to be launched in India.
The NFC-based Tap to Pay feature can be used in retail stores, restaurants, grocery stores and any other location that accepts NFC-enabled card payment machines. Users have to add their card to the Paytm app, after which the card will be “tokenized” so that it can be used at payment machines. While using the tap-to-pay feature offers the convenience of not having to carry a card, an additional advantage is that the original card details are not shared with the merchant when the transaction is performed.
Here’s how to quickly set up tap-to-pay functionality on the Paytm app:
-
Visit Google Play Store to update your Paytm app.
-
Open the Paytm app and select Click to pay.
-
tap Add new card If you haven’t saved any cards, check them at the bottom.
-
Enter your card details on the next screen and click Continue to verify card.
-
Be sure to read and accept your card issuer’s terms of service.
-
Enter the one-time password (OTP) to complete contactless payment activation.
Here’s how to pay with Tap and Pay on your smartphone:
- Unlock your smartphone and make sure NFC is turned on.
- Hold your smartphone close to the PoS machine, close to the contactless payment logo.
- Do not remove your smartphone until the transaction is completed.
- For transactions above Rs. 5000, enter your PIN code at the PoS machine.
- Check your smartphone screen for a message informing you that the transaction was successful.
