Two weeks after the first public release of Apple’s latest operating system update, iOS 17.0.3 is now rolling out to iPhone users. The company’s latest iOS update fixes an issue affecting Apple’s new iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models after users complained of overheating issues. The iOS 17.0.3 update also fixes a security vulnerability affecting the operating system’s kernel that could allow malicious users to gain access to users’ smartphones.
Apple recently confirmed that there is a bug in iOS 17 that may cause new iPhone models to heat up, and some apps such as Uber and Instagram are not properly optimized for iOS 17 and Apple’s new A17 Pro chip, which may exacerbate thermal issues. The company said at the time that the bug would be resolved through a software update, which is now rolling out to users.
According to Apple, in addition to fixes for iPhone 15 Pro models, the iOS 17.0.3 update also fixes a security issue affecting the iOS kernel that allowed malicious users to gain elevated privileges on smartphones. This flaw was actively exploited in iOS 16.6 and earlier versions. Likewise, the update also fixes a flaw in WebRTC, a real-time communications framework used by several companies, that allowed arbitrary code execution on user devices.
