How to claim Verizon’s $20 credit for Wednesday’s service outage

Verizon offers a very small admit mistake DownDetector received more than 1.5 million reports following the massive outage that occurred on Wednesday and lasted for several hours. The carrier posted on X that it will offer $20 in credits, but customers must redeem them in the myVerizon app.

“This credit is not intended to make up for what happened. No credit can truly make up,” the company wrote. “But it is a way to recognize your time and show that it matters to us.” Angry customers were mostly skeptical that not only was the amount small, but it wouldn’t be automatically applied.

Engadget has reached out to Verizon to find out whether this credit can be claimed by contacting the carrier or just through the app. If we receive a response, we will update this article.

Updated, January 15, 2026, 11:57 PM ET: Verizon says points can be claimed via phone, chat and online customer service in addition to the myVerizon app.
