New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir wrote history by winning their maiden Ranji Trophy title on Saturday as the final against Karnataka ended in a draw.

They were declared champions thanks to a huge lead in the first game, which played a decisive role in the summit clash.

In terms of prize money, BCCI has increased domestic incentives in April 2023. The Ranji Trophy winner will now get Rs 5 crore, the runner-up will get Rs 3 crore and the semi-final loser will get Rs 1 crore.

J&K put themselves in a strong position with a mammoth score of 584 in the first innings.

In reply, Karnataka were bowled out for 293 in 93.3 overs. Pacer Auqib Nabi led the bowling attack brilliantly. The right-arm pacer took 5 wickets in 54 runs and gave his team a 291-run lead.

Despite having the option to execute the follow-on, J&K opted to bat again, knocking Karnataka out of the running.

On the fifth and final day, they continued their second innings with a score of 186 for four. Qamran Iqbal remained unbeaten overnight with a knock of 94 and Sahil Lotra scored 16 as they turned the game firmly in their favor with a superb century performance.

Iqbal remained unbeaten on 160 runs while Lothra remained unbeaten on 101 runs as J&K reached 342/4, extending their overall lead to 633 runs.

With Karnataka having no realistic chance of chasing the target, the two captains agreed to shake hands.

The victory was a landmark moment for Jammu and Kashmir, 67 years after they started participating in the tournament.
