MILAN — Ilia Malinin didn’t put on a gold-medal-worthy routine at the 2026 Winter Olympics, and the judges knew it.
The American figure skating star suffered a disastrous performance in the free dance on Friday, February 13, with multiple falls and stage jumps before finishing eighth in the men’s singles, a far cry from the expectations of the “Quad God”.

After the competition, all nine judges’ ratings were revealed, resulting in Malinen’s free skate score of 156.33, ranking 15th among the 24 skaters remaining in the competition. What’s noteworthy about Marinen’s score is that not even a U.S. judge gave him the highest possible score.
