How did Auburn football signees perform at the AHSAA Super 7?

The high school football season in Alabama came to a close this week with the AHSAA Super 7 Championship taking place at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Alabama.

For three Auburn University signees in the 2026 class, a busy week began with signing with the Auburn Tigers and ended with playing in the biggest football game of their careers. Four-star EDGE Jaquez Wilkes, three-star wide receiver DeShawn Spencer and three-star safety Damonte Tabb all played in state championship games at their respective levels, with one player ending his prep career on a high note.

Here’s an inside look at Wilkes, Spencer and Tabb’s performance in AHSAA Super 7.

Jacquez Wilkes

Wadley’s Jaquez Wilkes (6) carries the ball during the AHSAA Class 1A state championship game Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025, at Protective Stadium in Birmingham, Ala. Maplesville led Wadley 21-14 at halftime.

Wilkes led the Wardley Bulldogs to the 1A state championship for the second straight season and third of his high school career. He rushed eight times for 43 yards and a touchdown on offense and had five tackles on defense. However, a high ankle sprain kept him out of the second half and his team lost to Maplesville 42-22.

2027 Auburn target Nehemiah McCrary rushed for 182 yards and two touchdowns for Maplesville in the win.

DeShawn Spencer

December 5, 2025; Birmingham, AL, USA; Saraland’s DeShawn Spencer (2) is hit by Clay-Chalkville’s Deon Callins (7) during the AHSAA 6A state championship game at Protective Life Stadium.

Saraland wide receiver Deshawn Spencer finished his high school career on a high note by catching 10 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown and adding an additional 34 yards. His performance wasn’t enough for the Spartans, however, as Clay-Chuckville defeated Saraland 38-21 to win the 6A title.

Damont Tubb

Lipscomb Academy wide receiver Cam Blivens (7) is tackled by Thompson’s Damonte Tabb (20) after catching a pass during a high school football game on Thursday, August 29, 2024, in Nashville, Tennessee.

In Thompson’s 48-10 win over Opelika in the 7A state championship game, Tubb made just one stop, but he had an interception and broke up a pass in the win. Tabb, who had his 11th interception of the season, is poised to join the ranks of Thompson alumni on Auburn’s roster, including Caleb Harris and Jared Smith.
