YORK — The York Public Library, in partnership with York Climate Action Readiness and the York Land Trust, will host a nine-part climate series this winter and spring exploring how climate change is reshaping Maine’s coast and coastal waters.
“Tides of Change: Our Coasts, Our Futures” will run from February to April and is the library’s fifth annual climate-focused collaboration since Yorktown released its climate action plan in 2022. The event series brings together area scientists, educators and conservation groups to explore the local impacts of global climate trends.
The York Public Library, in partnership with York Climate Action Preparedness and York Land Trust, will host a nine-part climate series this winter and spring exploring how climate change is reshaping Maine’s coast and coastal waters.
This year’s program centers on the Gulf of Maine—one of the world’s fastest-warming ocean regions—and connects scientific research with on-the-ground experiences along York’s coastline.
Topics include ocean plastic pollution and microplastics, the impact of warming waters on seabirds and marine habitats, and challenges facing Maine’s lobster industry. The series will include expert lectures, documentary screenings and guided walking tours of the salt marsh, highlighting restoration and community-based resilience efforts.
All programs are free and open to the public; registration recommended. For more information, program details and records of past climate events, visit yorkpubliclibrary.org/climate.
