Hornets star LaMelo Ball reportedly avoids injury in Charlotte car accident

Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball avoided injury in a car crash in uptown Charlotte, according to Rod Boone of the Charlotte Observer.

WSOC-TV has more details and video of the crash. According to reports, the accident occurred at the intersection of Tryon Street and Trade Street, when Ball’s customized Hummer struck the left front wheel of a Kia sedan. The driver of the sedan was reportedly taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Ball was reportedly traveling westbound on the trade route when he attempted to turn left onto Tryon. The video appears to show the Hummer trying to get out of the turn but still colliding with the left front portion of the Kia.

It has not been confirmed that Ball was the driver, but when police arrived at the scene, he was seen exiting the Hummer from the driver’s seat and driving away in a Lamborghini. Images from the scene showed the Hummer was missing its left front wheel.

It’s unclear whether Ball will face any legal consequences as a result of the crash. However, he appears to have earned a bit of a reputation during his driving career in Charlotte, as evidenced by a 2024 compilation of him swerving recklessly and running a red light while leaving the Spectrum Center parking lot.

Ball, who is in his sixth season with the Hornets, is currently averaging a career-low 27.7 minutes per game, and his points (19.3) and assists (7.4) represent his lowest numbers since his rookie year. However, he is also expected to play 50 games for the first time since the 2021-22 season.
