Former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton said on Tuesday that TikTok was largely to blame for the growing hatred of “smart, well-educated” young Americans toward Israel and its war in Gaza.

While attending the Israel Hayom Summit in New York City, Clinton expressed regret that so many young Americans are inundated with anti-Israel propaganda on social media platforms.

“What they saw were short clips, some of which were completely made up, some of which didn’t represent what they claimed to be showing at all, and that’s where they got their information,” Clinton said.

Former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton says the social media platform TikTok is partly responsible for the anti-Israel propaganda that many young people receive.

The former secretary of state spoke of the rise in anti-Israel and anti-Semitic sentiment around the world, particularly since Hamas’ October 7 terrorist attack in Israel.

“Young, smart, well-educated people from our country and around the world, where do they get their information? They get their information from social media, especially TikTok,” she said.

In the weeks following the Oct. 7 massacre, the social media platform faced accusations that it was not doing enough to combat hateful anti-Semitic and anti-Israel content.

An internal memo written by a senior employee in TikTok’s Israel office and obtained by Fox News Digital highlights in detail unequal policies toward paid humanitarian campaigns by Israeli families compared with anti-Israel groups, as well as a cavalier and even biased attitude toward violent and inflammatory content posted by users on the site.

Clinton said on Tuesday that young people getting information about Israel from TikTok was a “serious problem.”

“That’s where they learn about what happened on October 7 and what happened in the days, weeks and months that followed. This is a serious problem. It’s a serious problem for democracy, both in Israel and the United States, and it’s a serious problem for our young people.”

Clinton continued, noting that when she tries to confront young people, their anti-Israel views appear to be deeply ingrained.

Clinton said TikTok has changed how young people view Israel.

She said having a “reasonable discussion” with these people is “very difficult because they have no history, little context, and what they are told on social media is not just one-sided – it is pure propaganda.”

Clinton also accused young Jewish Americans of being ignorant on the topic.

“It’s not just the usual suspects. There’s a lot of young Jewish Americans who don’t know the history and don’t understand it.”
