A car fell off Highway 46 in San Luis Obispo County Monday afternoon, briefly closing part of the road.

According to the California Highway Patrol’s accident reporting page, reporting parties said a red sedan traveling in the westbound lanes of the highway just west of Old Creek Road fell off the side of the road at about 3:57 p.m.

Emergency traffic scanners showed the car had fallen hundreds of feet from the edge of the road.

The CHP’s Templeton office posted on

“Please be prepared for delays and be aware of those on site,” the post read.

CHP spokesman Ryan Armstrong told the Tribune late Monday that only one vehicle was involved, but it was unclear how many people were inside or the extent of the injuries.

In an update posted on X, the CHP said that as of 5:15 p.m., traffic was resuming and one-way traffic controls were in place.
