Hideo Kojima released a new trailer for his upcoming horror game OD at Xbox Game Studios’ Kojima Projections on Tuesday. Kojima Productions also confirmed that the game is being developed in Epic Games’ Unreal Engine. A new trailer gives the first look at OD, which was revealed at The Game Awards 2023.
OD new trailer revealed
Kojima Productions showed off the second trailer for the horror game at the Beyond the Strand event, which marked the studio’s 10th anniversary and gave an update on its future projects. OD is a collaboration between acclaimed horror director Hideo Kojima, Jordan Peele and Xbox and will star acclaimed actors including Sophia Lillis, Udo Kier and Hunter Schaeffer.
During Tuesday’s Beyond the Strand livestream, Hideo Kojima took the stage with Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer to show off the new trailer for OD. The head of Xbox said that development of the project is “well underway.”
“At Xbox, we help creators push boundaries. OD is definitely that opportunity, an opportunity to support something truly visionary. Development is well underway. Kojima is innovating in gameplay, story and player engagement,” Spencer said at the event.
Kojima said OD will bring something completely new, a system that blends games and movies. The designer has revealed new footage of the game recorded in Unreal Engine.
Titled “Knock,” the three-minute-long trailer shows first-person footage of Sophia Lillis’ character inside the house. She struck a match, lit a few candles, and heard an ominous knock on the door. The door eventually opens and an unseen supernatural entity enters and seizes the characters, seemingly frozen in place with fear.
Kojima said that the technology used in OD is “a step above” that of Death Stranding 2: Beach. He confirmed that the footage, including a close-up of Lilith’s face, was not a cutscene, but footage from inside the engine. After the event, Spencer said on X that development of OD is “in full swing.” However, the game does not yet have a release date.
