‘Har match mein kuch naya’: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi explains viral ‘nothing’ celebration after 93 vs LSG

Rajasthan Royals batsman Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said he is not planning celebrations and prefers to try something new in every game after his 93-run knock helped RR beat Lucknow Supergiants by 7 wickets in the IPL on Tuesday.

Sooryavanshi smashed 93 off 38 balls as Rajasthan Royals chased down 221 in 19.1 overs to keep their playoff hopes alive. During the game, he celebrated his 50th birthday with an unusual gesture – an inverted V with one finger.

When asked about his post-match celebrations, the left-handed batsman said: “I don’t know. I just do something new every game. I don’t really plan it. There’s no meaning behind it. Even the celebration I did in the last game doesn’t mean anything. I just keep trying new things.”

The young man also said that he did not care about the comments from the outside world around him. “I don’t read any newspapers. This is just the beginning. If I have a long career, people will always talk about me.”

Earlier in the match, Mitchell Marsh came into bat and smashed 96 off 57 balls to help Lucknow Super Giants post 220 for 5.

Marsh scored 109 runs for the opening wicket along with Josh Inglis, who scored 60 off 29 balls. He then combined for 64 runs again with captain Rishabh Pant, who scored 35 runs.

In reply, stand-in RR captain Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 43 runs and shared a 75-run opening stand with Sooryavanshi. After Jaiswal’s dismissal, Sooryavanshi added 105 runs along with Jitesh Sharma, who remained unbeaten on 53 runs.

Sooryavanshi also became the second all-time scorer in the powerplay format of the IPL season. In the first 6 overs of RR’s chase, he scored 25 runs off 16 balls.
