Hansi Flick gives update on Andreas Christensen’s knee injury ahead of Villarreal clash

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick gave a brief update on Andreas Christensen’s knee injury ahead of Sunday’s game against Villarreal at the Estadio Ceramica.

The Catalan giants have confirmed that the Denmark international has suffered a partially torn anterior cruciate ligament and will be out for the foreseeable future.

Flick was asked about the defender ahead of the game against Marcelino’s side and admitted he will be out for some time.

“I think he’s going to be out for the next few months. He’s performing at a high level. He provides stability to our defence. He was a good option but now he’s out,” he told DAZN.

Paulo Cubasi and Gerard Martin will once again form Barcelona’s centre-back pairing against Villarreal, with Flick praising both players before kick-off.

“At 18 years old, Kubalsi looks very mature. He is always calm, brings stability to our defense and creates chances from the back. He gives us a lot,” he said.

“You always know what Gerald Martin is going to bring to you. His progression has been really good. I appreciate the stability he provides us. I admire him a lot.”

News of Christensen’s injury means there is already widespread speculation that Barcelona could try to sign another defender in January to bolster their options at the back.
