HALF MOON – A 63-year-old Schaghticoke man “rapidly accelerated” and pinned the employee between two vehicles while waiting in line for service on Saturday, causing serious damage to a Half Moon auto shop that seriously injured a Valvoline employee and forced the store to close for repairs, according to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the Valvoline Hotel at 1682 Route 9 at 11:52 a.m. Saturday. Their investigation found that the car driven by the Schagticoke man “accelerated rapidly,” pinning the 50-year-old employee between the front of the car and the car in front of him, according to a news release from the department.
The first car in line was pushed forward, breaking through a glass garage door at the back of the store and hitting a third car that was being repaired inside, the Sheriff’s Office said. The third vehicle was then forced forward and crashed through the glass garage door at the front of the store, according to the department.
“The incident resulted in significant damage to the building. The business is closed until further notice,” the department wrote in a news release.
The Valvoline employee was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment of a broken leg and possible internal injuries, the Sheriff’s Office said. As of Saturday afternoon, his condition was serious but stable.
It’s unclear whether the driver of the car that caused the crash will face any charges. Capt. Daniel Morley, a spokesman for the department, said the accident remains under investigation.
