Ground stop issued at LAX after engine issue forces evacuation of United flight

A United Airlines flight was forced to evacuate at Los Angeles International Airport due to an engine fire, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Due to an emergency on the plane, Los Angeles International Airport issued a ground stop order, but it was later canceled.

Live camera footage showed the plane parked at the airport, with smoke reportedly seen near one of its engines. The plane was bound for Newark, New Jersey, but was forced to return to Los Angeles International Airport around 11:20 a.m.

About 40 minutes later, the engine was still smoking.

A total of 256 passengers and 12 crew members were evacuated, one of whom suffered a cut on his finger.

The FAA issued the following statement:

“United Airlines Flight 2127 safely returned to Los Angeles International Airport at approximately 11:20 a.m. local time on Monday, March 2, at approximately 11:20 a.m. local time. Passengers disembarked on the taxiway. The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner was en route to Newark Liberty International Airport, New Jersey. The FAA will investigate. Please contact the airline and airport for more information.”

No other injuries were reported. No further details are available at this time.
