Grimes leads short-handed 76ers to a 109-103 win over the Trail Blazers

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Quentin Grimes scored 14 of his season-high 31 points in the fourth quarter as the short-handed Philadelphia 76ers beat the Portland Trail Blazers 109-103 on Sunday night.

The Sixers were without Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Kelly Oubre Jr. due to injuries.

Justin Edwards scored 21 points and V.J. Edgecombe had 18 points and a career-high 12 rebounds for the rookie’s third double-double of the season.

Deni Avdija led the Trail Blazers with 25 points, and Jerami Grant also scored 20 points. But the Trail Blazers made just 17 of 53 three-pointers (32.7%). Donovan Klingen had 11 points and 15 rebounds.

Portland led by one point at halftime, 54-53, and with the help of Edwards’ 9 points in the third quarter, the 76ers extended their lead to 10 points.

The 76ers took their largest lead at 101-87 with 5:34 left in the game, but the Trail Blazers responded with a 10-0 run. Edgecombe hit a jumper with 1:53 left, and Edwards stole the ball and dunked with 1:20 left to seal the victory for Philadelphia.
