Genshin Impact to Be Discontinued on PS4 Over Hardware Limitations, Platform Application Size

Developer MiHoYo has announced that free-to-play action role-playing game Genshin Impact will be removed from PS4. The Chinese studio said it will end game support and updates for previous-generation PlayStation consoles in future releases. MiHoYo stated that they will discontinue the PS4 version of the game due to hardware limitations and platform app size. The company said that the PS4 version of “Genshin Impact” will be removed from the PlayStation Store on September 10, but the PS5 version of the game will continue uninterrupted.

Genshin Impact will be removed from PS4

“Due to limitations related to hardware performance and platform application size, we will stop support and updates for Genshin Impact on PS4 in future releases,” the company said in a blog post on its website on Wednesday. “Genshin Impact on PS5 will continue to function normally and will not be affected by removals and update stops on PS4. Travelers will still be able to enjoy the latest content updates on PS5 and other supported platforms.”

MiHoYo announced that Genshin Impact will be discontinued on PS4 in three phases, which include the removal of the game, the removal of in-game purchases, and the eventual end of update support.

The PS4 version of Genshin Impact will be removed from the PlayStation Store on September 10, 2025. PS4 users who have never downloaded the game will not be able to access it, but users who have already downloaded it will be able to re-download it from their library.

In-game purchases will be removed from the PlayStation Store and in-game stores on February 25, 2026. Finally, MiHoYo will end all update support for Genshin Impact on PS4 on April 8, 2026. After this date, PS4 users will no longer be able to log into the game, and Genshin Impact installations will stop receiving update patches.

Prior to the cessation of updates for Genshin Impact on PS4, any in-game items purchased from the PlayStation Store but not yet claimed in the game could be claimed by logging into the game on the console. After the update is stopped, users can receive items by logging in to the PS5 version of the game.

MiHoYo also recommends that PS4 players start transitioning to PS5 or other supported platforms to continue playing games. All game progress from PS4 will be transferred to other platforms.

The required specifications for “Genshin Impact” have been increased

The studio also announced on Wednesday that it will be increasing Genshin Impact’s minimum and recommended device spec requirements on supported platforms, starting with the Song of Welkin Moon update. MiHoYo says this is done to “support future version updates” and “optimize game performance.”

Genshin Impact will require Android 10.0 or higher, raising the minimum SoC requirements to a Snapdragon 660 (Adreno 610) or Helio G88 (Mali-G52) and higher. On Apple devices, the game will run on iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X, iPad mini (5th generation) or iPad Air (3rd generation) or iPad (8th generation) and above, but the developers recommend iPhone 12 series or iPad (9th generation) and above. Genshin Impact also requires iOS 13.0 and above.

The game’s minimum PC operating system, processor and GPU requirements have also been increased.

“Devices with below minimum specs may still launch the game, but may experience performance issues including frame rate drops, instability, or crashes during gameplay,” MiHoYo said.
