Geno Auriemma tied Tara VanDerveer as the most-gamed player in the Associated Press women’s basketball top 25 poll on Monday, while UConn remained No. 1.
Auriemma led the Huskies in the polls with 654 appearances over a 41-year Hall of Fame career, matching VanDerveer, who retires from Stanford in 2024. UConn has been ranked No. 1 for the past 619 consecutive weeks, dating back to the 1993-94 preseason poll, and was once again the unanimous choice No. 1 among a panel of 31 national media. Monday marked the 900th poll in the ranking’s 50-year history.

UCLA and South Carolina remain behind the Huskies in second and third. Texas State and Vanderbilt follow, leaving the top five unchanged. The Commodores beat the Longhorns last week before losing to Georgia on Sunday.
Michigan State, Louisville State and Louisville followed. After Duke defeated rival North Carolina on Sunday, the Blue Devils have won 16 straight games and are back in the top 10 at No. 9.
Ohio State dropped two spots to 10th after losing to Maryland on Sunday. The Terrapins moved up six spots to No. 14.

Minnesota cracks the top 25 for the first time this season, with the Golden Gophers ranked 23rd. They’ve won eight straight, but have a tough week ahead against Ohio State and No. 18 Michigan State. Minnesota was ranked two weeks into the season. Georgia also returns to the rankings this week, ranking No. 24 after defeating Vanderbilt. Princeton University and the University of Washington were dropped from the investigation.

Meeting first
The SEC remains at the top of the list with 10 teams participating in the survey. The top 10 companies follow with seven. There are four teams in the Big 12, three in the Atlantic Coast Conference and one in the Big East.
Game of the week
On Sunday, Michigan State was ranked No. 6 and Iowa State was ranked No. 13. The Wolverines and Hawkeyes are one game behind UCLA in the conference standings for second place in the Big Ten.
No. 7 LSU, No. 17 Mississippi State on Thursday. A key SEC game against the Tigers looking to bounce back from a loss to South Carolina. The Rebels have a busy week coming up this week against Tennessee, LSU and South Carolina.
