On Monday, the U.S. State Department announced it was adding Trump’s name to the U.S. Institute of Peace.

Some called this an interesting move, considering DOGE “destroyed” the institute earlier this year. “The Trump White House destroyed the Institute for Peace, firing its staff and calling it a ‘bloated, useless entity,'” said Peter Baker, chief White House correspondent for The New York Times. Now Trump has renamed the institute he sought to destroy after himself. “

Back in May, a federal judge ruled that Trump used “violence” to take over the institute. Lawyers representing USIP (United States Institute of Peace) commented on the name change: “Changing the name of the USIP building adds insult to injury. A federal judge has already ruled that the government’s armed takeover was illegal. This ruling has been stayed while the government appeals, and it is the only reason for the government to continue to control the building. The rightful owner will eventually prevail and restore the USIP and the building to their legal use.”
