Four guilty after girl, 16, raped and exploited

Four men have been found guilty after a teenage girl was raped and sexually exploited.

West Midlands Police said Arqash Zaffar, Shiraz Nassir, Mohammed Nadim and Shaban Arif were convicted of attacking the 16-year-old girl during a “horrendous ordeal”.

Zafar and Nasir were found guilty of rape, Nadeem of sexual assault and Arif of facilitating travel for sexual exploitation.

Police said the girl was repeatedly attacked by the gang after being picked up in Birmingham before being taken to Denton, Greater Manchester and Walsall where she was raped by the couple and other unidentified men.

Zafar and Nadeem targeted the girl while she was waiting for a bus in Minnhamrock Road, Birmingham, and Zafar asked for her phone number.

She refused and got into the car, but days later the men targeted her again and convinced her to get into the car and drive her to the city centre.

Police said Zafar drove her to a secluded area where he and Nadeem sexually assaulted her in the back seat of the car.

They picked up Arif and drove her to Nasir’s home in Denton, where she was raped by Zafar and Nasir.

The girl reported that she was taken back to a hotel room in Walsall where she was further abused by Zafar.

She was flown to Birmingham and Zafar offered a friend a hotel room key and stayed with the girl, but the friend refused.

Later that night, she reported being taken back to her room and raped by four other unidentified men.

West Midlands Police said Arif gave false information when booking the room but provided his name, vehicle registration and driving license, which later aided the investigation.

Officers said they were able to identify the convicted man involved through phone usage, hotel bookings, vehicle and insurance details and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) records.

  • Zafar, 41, of Persehouse Street, Walsall, was found guilty of five counts of rape, four of causing a child to engage in sexual activity without consent and facilitating travel for the sexual exploitation of a child.

  • Nassir, 40, of Fir Road, Denton, was found guilty of rape.

  • Nadim, 45, of Holtshill Lane, Walsall, was found guilty of sexual assault.

  • Arif, 42, of Holden Crescent, Walsall, was found guilty of facilitating the travel of a child for the purpose of sexual exploitation.

Officer Stuart Garrett praised the victim’s bravery.

He said: “This was a complex investigation involving multiple inquiries, working with other agencies and most importantly support for this child, whose bravery is to be commended and I am absolutely delighted with these convictions for her in particular.”

“These men took advantage of an obviously vulnerable teenager. She was deeply traumatized by what she had experienced.

“She found the strength to report this and specialist child abuse officers worked extremely hard to identify the men and, in doing so, bring justice to her.”

All defendants have been remanded in custody and are due to appear at Birmingham Crown Court for sentencing on March 19, 2026.
